Marty Seitz A Little about Marty
Marty Seitz

Marty Seitz, Ph.D.  Born in Virginia, raised in Michigan, Dr. Seitz attended undergraduate college Kentucky and then went to graduate school in Atlanta, Georgia, living the majority of his life in Kentucky.

Upon completion of his bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Asbury College, Dr. Seitz completed one year of training in Bible and theology at Asbury Theological Seminary. Dr. Seitz received a Master’s degree (M.Ed.) in Community Counseling at Georgia State University (GSU) and a Certificate Program in Christian Counseling from The Psychological Studies Institute (PSI).  After completing his doctoral coursework at GSU in Counseling Psychology, Dr. Seitz was commissioned as a Captain in the United States Army in the Medical Service Corps and completing his Clinical Psychology Internship at Eisenhower Army Medical Center at Fort Gordon outside Augusta, Georgia.  Dr. Seitz completed his military service at Ireland Army Community Hospital at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Dr. Seitz became a Licensed Psychologist in Kentucky in 1989 after receiving his Ph.D.

Dr. Seitz’ approach to counseling is a collaborative approach with his clients, viewing his clients as partners in the process of seeking improvement in the quality and meaningfulness of their lives. He views himself as less of an authority and more of a consultant, encourager and resource person for his clients.

Dr. Seitz describes his theory of counseling an adaptation of “Multi-Modal” and “Multi-Theoretical Integrative” Therapies. He uses a comprehensive approach utilizing tools and concepts from all the most common and effective forms of therapy including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy depending on clients’ individual needs and personalities.  He emphasizes stress management and identifying and building coping resources. Dr. Seitz will usually obtain a comprehensive personal history from his clients in order to get to know them and in order to understand the context of their current challenges.  Operating from a Christian values perspective, Dr. Seitz is careful not to impose his faith or beliefs on his clients respecting their views and beliefs.

As a general practitioner, Dr. Seitz works with a wide range of problems and issues.     I have had 30+ years of experience in working with marital problems, work-related problems, interpersonal problems, spiritual problems, as well as with Mood/Depressive disorders, Anxiety disorders and other mental health issues.

In addition to his counseling and psychotherapy practice, Dr. Seitz is an Associate Professor of Psychology at Asbury University, where he has taught since 1989. From time to time, he also serves as an Adjunct Professor at Asbury Theological Seminary in their Master’s degree program in Counseling. As an educator, Dr. Seitz integrates psycho-education in his therapy with his clients.
