Counseling Approach
Dr. Seitz’s approach to counseling is collaborative with his clients, viewing them as partners in the process of seeking improvement in the quality and meaningfulness of their lives. He views himself as less an authority and more as a consultant, encourager, and resource person for his clients. Dr. Seitz describes his approach to counseling as adaptations of Multimodal Therapy and Multi-theoretical Integrative Therapy. He uses a comprehensive approach, utilizing tools and concepts from all the most common and effective forms of psychotherapy, including, but not limited to, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), depending on clients’ individual needs and personalities. He emphasizes stress management and on identifying and building coping resources. Dr. Seitz usually obtains a comprehensive personal history from his clients in order to get to know them, to understand the context of their current challenges, and to give them a chance to get to know him. He operates from a traditional Christian values perspective, but he is careful not to impose his faith, beliefs, or values on his clients.
